Trump confirms strong partnership with Libya in combating terrorism
Trump affirms enduring US-Libya counterterrorism partnership, condemning recent derogatory remarks about Libya.

US President Donald Trump affirmed that the United States and Libya enjoy a "strong and permanent partnership" in the field of counterterrorism, pointing to a "historic joint success in defeating the Daesh organization in Libya." This came in a post published by Trump on Sunday evening via the "Truth Social" platform, where he described the Libyan people as "proud, resilient, and hospitable, and deserving of peace and prosperity."

In the same context, Trump stressed the need to end the flow of illegal immigration across Libyan territory, stating that "Libya cannot remain a transit route for illegal immigration, and this situation must end immediately." These remarks followed statements made by Trump on Saturday during an election rally in Perry, Georgia, where he described Libya, Yemen, Haiti, and Somalia as "dirty countries."

For his part, Libyan National Unity Government head Abdul Hamid Dbeibah announced his rejection of those remarks, affirming his country's commitment to establishing relations with the United States based on mutual respect. Dbeibah described Libya in a statement on Facebook as a "sovereign state," and rejected any insult to its people, who have made significant sacrifices in fighting terrorism.

Reports indicated that Libyan-US relations have recently seen moves to enhance economic and security cooperation, in addition to Washington's engagement in efforts to resolve the Libyan political crisis.
