Trump describes Brazilian elections as leaving a bad impression
Trump calls Brazilian elections rigged, leaving a bad impression amid diplomatic tensions.

US President Donald Trump announced on Monday evening that he did not side with any party in the Brazilian presidential elections held last Sunday, describing the electoral process as having left a very bad impression globally. This came in statements Trump made to journalists before leaving Washington for Mississippi to attend a Republican Party electoral event.

In the same context, Trump stated: "Honestly, it looked again like a rigged election. I did not side with any party, but it left a very bad impression all over the world." He emphasized the necessity for elections to be free from any doubts, confirming that he has no problem with the winner, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

For his part, data from Brazil's Superior Electoral Court showed Lula da Silva winning with 51.78 percent of valid votes, compared to 48.22 percent for his rival Flavio Bolsonaro, after 99.98 percent of votes were counted. This result comes amid strained relations between Washington and Brazil due to US tariffs, with Lula da Silva accusing the United States of interfering in internal affairs.

He noted that Lula da Silva's victory occurs at a time when Latin America is witnessing the rise of conservative governments in countries such as Chile, Colombia, and Peru, some of which seek to bring their relations closer to Trump. National sovereignty is a key pillar in Lula's electoral campaign in response to recent diplomatic tensions.
