US government office sparks controversy over Trump family's wealth

In a  document, the U.S. Office of Government Ethics revealed detailed details regarding the personal wealth and cash flows of President Donald Trump and his family over the past year.

The 927-page official disclosures showed Trump received $10.71 million in licensing fees for the documentary "Melania" produced by Amazon MGM, adding to previous figures that Amazon paid about $40 million in total to buy the rights to the film, of which $28 million went directly to the first lady, as well as another $35 million to market the work.

Trade returns and digital investments

The detailed financial statements showed that the total amount Trump received last year exceeded the $2.2 billion threshold, flowing from diversified real estate sectors, sales of his own branded merchandise and products, licensing deals made, as well as court settlements.

The same document noted that the Trump family's investments in the crypto and digital asset sectors succeeded in generating huge profits that exceeded the $1 billion mark during his first year after his official return to the White House, highlighting once again the broad business activity of his personal investment plans.

Critical Reviews and Business Background

These huge financial figures were based on extensive technical reviews and critical readings, with Euronews' culture department describing the documentary as a mere self-portrait and an outright commercial attempt to appease the administration, seeing it as a financial deal aimed at fueling the Trump brand.

In a parallel context, billionaire Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, defended these transactions in statements to CNBC, stressing that they stem from purely commercial and non-partisan decisions, especially since the film has been a great commercial success and excellent performance in cinemas and on digital streaming platforms as a result of the prevailing public curiosity about Melania's character.

Democratic attack and accusations of corruption

Democratic political leaders have strongly attacked these disclosures, with Senator Elizabeth Warren calling for strict laws to be enacted that prevent the president, senior officials and their families from making any personal gains from the crypto industry to avoid promoting what she described as blatant corruption.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Waltz followed suit, calling Trump one of the most fiscally controversial presidents in U.S. history, amid wide-ranging partisan demands by his opponents that he should tighten oversight and amend the legal and ethical rules governing the personal investments of politicians and administration officials.

Government Defense and Economic Vision

In an official statement, White House spokeswoman Anna Kelly denied all the accusations against the president, stressing that Trump and his family have never been involved and will not engage in any form of financial or political conflict of interest. Kelly stressed that all executive decisions and legislative support for financial policies and related laws are primarily aimed at driving innovation and creating opportunities, in addition to seeking to make the United States the first global capital of cryptocurrencies, stressing that the actions and steps taken by the administration are formulated and implemented in the best economic interests of the American people.
