US President Donald Trump on Wednesday described his country's talks with Iran in Doha as "very good" and said: "Things are going well."
Speaking to reporters as he prepared to board his new Air Force One jet on a flight to North Dakota, Trump said that "the process of denuclearizing Iran is progressing well, they've had very good meetings, and we'll see."
Trump continued: "We hit them very hard. But we understand very well," he said, praising his policies on the markets, saying, "Oil prices continue to fall. It got $80 billion for the United States," he said .
An informed diplomatic source said the Doha talks were based on the framework agreement of the memorandum of understanding signed by the two sides at the summit of Lake Lucerne, Switzerland, last June.
The source added that the talks "will not witness the participation of US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff", who met Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Jassim al-Thani on Tuesday.
Iran: Our delegation did not meet with the Americans
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said on Wednesday (July 1) that the Iranian delegation's talks in Doha were limited to the delegations of Qatar and Pakistan, and that the Iranian delegation did not hold any meetings with the US side.
Iranian state television quoted Gharibabadi, head of the Iranian delegation in the Qatari capital, as saying that the Doha talks dealt with mechanisms for implementing the provisions of the "Islamabad Memorandum", especially with regard to the file of "Lebanon and frozen funds".
He added that the Iranian delegation held only trilateral meetings with the Qatari and Pakistani sides, while no meeting with the American side took place, despite the presence of American representatives in Doha, including Jared Kushner and US presidential adviser Steve Whitkoff, stressing that "no negotiations were held with the American side in Doha."
Establishing a communication channel for violations of the Memorandum of Understanding
In addition, the Iranian news agency IRNA said that during a visit to Qatar, Abadi discussed the progress of the implementation of the memorandum of understanding and the challenges it faces, noting that a communication channel has been established to report and discuss any violations of the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States.
The agency added that Abadi reviewed solutions to accelerate the implementation of the terms of the memorandum of understanding, especially with regard to Lebanon, remove existing obstacles, and expand bilateral cooperation in areas of common interest.
At the end of these meetings, Gharibabadi pointed out that the talks, today's talks focused on following up on the implementation of the terms of the memorandum of understanding.
Regarding the start of negotiations to reach a final agreement, he explained that working teams have been formed to follow up on the implementation of the understanding and negotiate to reach a final agreement, but negotiations within the framework of these formations have not yet begun.
