US President Donald Trump threatened on Thursday evening to bomb Iran again tonight and to take control in the "near future" of Kharg Island and other oil infrastructure sites.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the United States would bomb Iran "with great force tonight" and would soon take control of its oil and gas markets and infrastructure.
"Sometime in the near future, we will take control of Khark Island, other oil infrastructure sites, and we will have full control of their oil and gas markets, as we have done with Venezuela," Trump added.
Fiery Messages to Tehran via Fox News
In a scathing interview with Fox News, Trump made a series of striking statements, combining direct threat with an emphasis on continuing channels of negotiation with Iran, in a scene that reflects a combination of military pressure and deliberate political messages.
Trump made it clear that Washington was "talking to Iran" but "not hitting it enough yet," before adding that the Iranians were negotiating for a deal, but their pride was making it "difficult for them."
The US president escalated his tone, saying that "Iran's order is over" and that he could bring in his troops "tomorrow", but he did not want to send ground troops, preferring the option of controlling Kharg Island, while stressing that his country was "eliminating the Iranians" and that Tehran "no longer has a navy, air force, or air defenses."
Trump revealed that bridges would be the next target of U.S. strikes, but he "doesn't want to do that" because civilians will be harmed, adding that "people in Iran won't be able to drink water... I don't want that to happen," he said.
In one of the most sensitive remarks, Trump said Washington had sent weapons to Iranian protesters, but expressed "deep frustration" with the Kurds that they had not delivered those weapons to the protesters as expected.
The US president concluded with a clear threatening message: "There will be more bombing tonight ... It will be bigger and stronger."
Tehran warns Trump administration
The speaker of Iran's parliament, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, warned of the dire repercussions of the US escalation and the threat of bombing the country again tonight, stressing that "wrong strategies and reckless decisions will create an endless quagmire in which you will linger for years."
In a statement on his account on the X platform, Qalibaf explained that the end result of these wrong strategies is: "You will find yourself in front of a completely different Iran."
The head of the Iranian parliament's national security committee, Ebrahim Azizi, on Thursday threatened the United States with a "stronger and more painful response" following statements by the US president, in which he vowed to bomb Iran again tonight.
Why is Khark Island important?
Khark Island is one of the most important strategic points in the Gulf, as it is the center of Iran's oil gravity and the artery through which approximately 90% to 95% of its crude exports pass to global markets.
The island is characterized by its great sea depth, which allows its anchorage to receive giant oil tankers that the shallow ports on the Iranian mainland cannot handle, making it the hub of Tehran's export infrastructure with a capacity of about 7 million barrels per day.
Geographically, Khark is located in the northern Persian Gulf, about 25 kilometers from the Iranian coast near the port of Janafeh, and about 70 kilometers west of Bushehr.
It extends over an area of about 25 square kilometers, is inhabited by a few thousand residents, while more than 90% of its area is allocated to oil facilities, making it a sensitive target in any regional tension and a pressure card with great economic and political weight.
