Trump Threatens to Use Veto to Block Democrats' Agenda
US President Donald Trump says he is ready to veto the Democrats' agenda in Congress amid expectations of political gridlock.

Expected Political Gridlock

US President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he has the power to use the veto to block the Democrats' agenda, but expressed his reluctance to exercise this power over a two-year period. This came during a live phone interview with Politico reporter Dasha Burns, where Trump predicted "political gridlock" in Washington, following media reports that Democrats had won majorities in both chambers of Congress in the midterm elections.

In the same context, Trump confirmed that Republicans would have won "very easily" if his name had been on the ballots, noting that although he has the right to veto everything, he prefers to work with the Democrats rather than continuously obstructing the legislative process.

Assessment of the Situation Regarding Iran

Trump addressed the impact of the election results on his policy towards Iran, pointing out the criticisms directed at him due to rising oil prices resulting from developments related to Iran. Trump affirmed that he is completely confident that the decision he made regarding launching a war on Iran "was, and still is, absolutely correct, for the long-term interest of our country, and indeed for the world as well."

In response to a question about escalating tensions with Iran, Trump said they would assess the situation, indicating the possibility of escalation if they saw a "favorable opportunity." Regarding circulating claims about using nuclear weapons against Iran, Trump stated: "I don't need that, we have already destroyed them."

Background of the Conflict

The United States and Israel began an aggression against Iran on February 28, 2026, before reaching a ceasefire in April, then clashes between Washington and Tehran resumed in July, amid stalled diplomatic efforts to end the war. Earlier, conservative American media personality Tucker Carlson warned that Trump might decide to launch a nuclear strike against Iran, under pressure from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
