Tunisia ranks first in North Africa and fourth in the Arab world in the 2026 Energy Transition Index with 56 points.

Tunisia announced its enhanced efforts in the field of energy transition and environmental protection, ranking first in North Africa and fourth in the Arab world within the 2026 Energy Transition Index. Tunisia scored 56 points out of 100, according to the report issued by the World Economic Forum in collaboration with Accenture.

Energy Performance and Transition Readiness

Tunisia recorded 62.4 points in the energy system performance axis, which measures security, equity, and sustainability, compared to 46.3 points in the transition readiness axis. The report indicated that the limited transition readiness in Tunisia and the region's countries is attributed to economic pressures, financial constraints, institutional obstacles, and delays in policy implementation.

Award-Winning Environmental Initiatives

In the same context, three Tunisian initiatives won the first edition of the "Michael Philip Cricknell" Environmental Award, with a total value of 100,000 dinars. The "Soli Green" project won first prize for supporting the planting of 12 million trees, while the "Zygofilter" project won second prize for waste containment, and the "Jnane Hafsia" project won third prize for converting the Sidi Mefrej park into a green space.

French Funding and New Warning Center

Furthermore, the Desert and Coast Observatory and the French Development Agency signed a funding agreement worth 150,000 euros for an 18-month project to enhance climate adaptation in the southern Mediterranean. For his part, the Forestry Department in the Jendouba governorate announced the establishment of a forest fire warning and monitoring center in Gar El Dama, relying on modern technologies to predict conditions conducive to fire outbreaks.
