Turkey Condemns Israeli Attacks on Syria, Lebanon, and Gaza
Turkey's UN envoy condemns Israeli aggression on Syria, Lebanon, and genocide in Gaza during Security Council session.

Ahmed Yildiz, Turkey's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, condemned the ongoing Israeli attacks on Syrian territory and the continuous aggression on the Gaza Strip, which he described as a genocide. This condemnation came in a statement read on behalf of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) group during a session of the UN Security Council held yesterday, Thursday, to discuss the situation in the Middle East.

Violations of International Law

Anadolu Agency quoted Yildiz as saying that the continuation of the Israeli occupation in Palestinian territories, along with its continuous violations and attacks in Syria and Lebanon, are contrary to international law. He called for the protection of the Palestinian people's rights and the adoption of stronger international measures to address these violations.

Yildiz added that the OIC firmly rejects any calls aimed at displacing the Palestinian people from the Gaza Strip and the West Bank under any pretext, emphasizing its condemnation of the genocidal war against the Palestinian people. He also called on the occupation authorities to implement the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and to fully comply with their commitments under UN resolutions, including Resolution 2803.

Security Council Resolution and Holy Sites

The Security Council adopted Resolution 2803 in November 2025, welcoming US President Donald Trump's plan to end the war in Gaza, which includes establishing a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire, the unhindered entry of humanitarian aid, and the reconstruction of the Strip. The resolution referred to preparing a reliable path enabling the Palestinian people to determine their destiny and establish their state.

Yildiz expressed the OIC group's strong condemnation of the ongoing Israeli attacks on the city of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque. He warned of Israeli plots aiming to divide Al-Aqsa Mosque temporally and spatially, stressing the importance of protecting Islamic and Christian holy sites and preserving their sanctity.

War Casualties in Gaza

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, resulting in the killing of more than 74,000 Palestinians and injuring over 175,000. The destruction has also led to the devastation of approximately 90 percent of the infrastructure, amid escalating attacks by the occupation army and settlers on Palestinians and their property in the West Bank.
