Two restaurants closed in Deir Ezzor after 277 food poisoning cases recorded
Two restaurants closed and health surveillance tightened in Deir Ezzor after 277 food poisoning cases, mostly mild to moderate.

Inspection rounds conducted by food and health investigation teams in Deir Ezzor Governorate led to the closure of two restaurants suspected of being linked to food poisoning cases recorded in the city, alongside tightened inspection measures on restaurants following the recording of 277 food poisoning cases.

Deir Ezzor Health Director Nasr Al-Khalaf stated that the recorded cases suffered from symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and general weakness, noting that most infections were mild to moderate, with no critical cases recorded.

For his part, Nidal Al-Saigh, head of the Food Safety Section at the Directorate of Internal Trade and Consumer Protection, clarified that the section began inspecting two restaurants against which complaints were filed, and seized spoiled meat in one of them, while samples were not available for testing in the other, indicating that precautionary records were organized against them and they were sealed with red wax.

Meanwhile, Ziad Al-Shaibi, head of the Public Health Laboratory at the Deir Ezzor Health Directorate, explained that epidemiological investigation teams took samples from patients and the suspected restaurants, as well as samples from food and the public water network and tanks, which are currently under analysis at the Directorate's laboratory and the Central Laboratory in Damascus.

Najm Haydar, surveillance and reporting officer at Al-Shahid Ahmed Al-Huwaydi Hospital, stated that the hospital admitted 55 poisoning cases, including seven pregnant women, noting that necessary treatments were provided and 18 samples were sent to public health laboratories pending test results.

An earlier tally issued yesterday indicated that approximately 160 food poisoning cases reached the National and Al-Huwaydi hospitals in Deir Ezzor city.
