The United Arab Emirates led the markets of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries in readiness for electric mobility, ranking 22nd globally with a score of 53 points, according to the '2026 Global Electric Mobility Readiness Index' report issued by Arthur D. Little. The UAE News Agency (WAM) relayed details from the report on the regional and global performance in this growing sector.
In the same context, the report indicated that the share of electric vehicles reached approximately 9 percent of total new vehicle sales in the UAE during 2025, while the number of electric vehicle charging points reached around 2,800 points, including approximately 1,250 direct current charging points and 350 high-capacity charging units. It also revealed ambitious goals targeting reaching a share of electric and hybrid vehicles of 50 percent of all vehicles on the roads by 2050, while Dubai aims to increase the share of electric vehicles in its fleet to more than 15 percent by 2030.
For its part, the index covered 31 global markets, based on five main axes, including the electric vehicle market, consumer readiness, charging infrastructure, total cost of ownership, and regulatory frameworks. China led the index globally with a score of 106 points, followed by Norway with 103 points, then Singapore with 96 points and the Netherlands with 90 points.
The report emphasized that accelerating the transition to electric mobility depends on the integration of infrastructure, policies, incentives, supply chains, and the energy system, alongside the availability of vehicles and user needs. It is worth noting that the UAE led the Middle East in electric car sales for the second consecutive year, according to the 'Global EV Outlook 2026' global report issued by the International Energy Agency last May.
