Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) announced on Monday, July 6, the launch of an integrated international platform for the marketing and trading of liquefied natural gas (LNG) at the Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM).
The new platform combines the marketing operations of ADNOC Gas and XRG with ADNOC Trading's advanced trading capabilities under a unified business entity, and aims to enhance the flexibility of operations and shipping options, and support the growth of the Group's business portfolio, including the Ruwais LNG project and the international expansion of XRG's business.
Mega targets by 2035 and leadership appointments
The platform aims to market 47 million tonnes of LNG annually by 2035, becoming one of the world's most important platforms in the sector and contributing to Abu Dhabi's position as a major hub for energy trade products.
As part of the new structure, ADNOC has appointed Rashid Khalfan Al Mazrouei as Head of Marketing and Development of LNG Supply Sources to oversee the joint portfolios of ADNOC Gas and XRG, while ADNOC Trading will remain responsible for direct trading activities without a change in the current customer mechanisms.
Momentum in production and expansion of the maritime transport fleet
ADNOC's gas activities have gained momentum following a consortium led by the acquisition of the concession to develop the gas cover of Abu Dhabi's Bab field with an expected capacity of 1.5 billion cubic feet per day, with ADNOC holding a 60% stake in the project, which is the largest of its kind in the world.
ADNOC L&S has expanded its fleet of LNG tankers to 20 tankers, including 14 modern two-stroke engines, to meet the requirements of the Group's growing network of commercial offices in Abu Dhabi, Singapore and Geneva.
The launch of the global platform is part of the UAE's strategy to lead the global energy transition and ensure long-term supply security, building on ADNOC's five-decade track record as a trusted supplier.
Development Timeline
This huge commercial is linked to successive developments and operational achievements achieved during the past and current year, and we review its most prominent milestones:
