The British government announced the allocation of a new economic and military support package for Ukraine worth £10 billion, aimed at enhancing its defensive capabilities, maintaining economic stability, and ensuring the continuity of public services during the winter.
Financial Package Details
The UK Treasury stated in a statement published yesterday Wednesday on its official website that the package includes an additional £500 million to support Ukrainian air defenses, amid ongoing Russian attacks on the country's critical infrastructure. The package also includes £7 billion in economic support available over three years.
Funding Sources and Institutions
The package includes World Bank guarantees worth £5.5 billion and a contribution of £500 million to the Crisis Facility of the International Development Association, enabling the mobilization of an additional £1.5 billion to support Ukraine. It also includes increasing the capacity of the UK Export Finance institution to provide support to Ukraine by £3 billion.
Political Commitments and Total Support
The ministry quoted Prime Minister Andy Burnham confirming his country's continued support for Ukraine, while Chancellor John Helli stressed London's commitment to Ukraine's sovereignty and its support in facing the war. The total support allocated by Britain to Ukraine, including the new package, reaches approximately £35 billion.
Britain is among the most prominent supporters of Ukraine since the start of the Russian military operation in February 2022, and it participates, along with France and Germany, in efforts to coordinate long-term security guarantees for Ukraine within what is known as the "Coalition of the Willing."
