Regional Context
These incidents come amid ongoing tension in Saudi Arabia following attacks carried out by the Houthi group against the kingdom. On Friday, the coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen announced the interception and destruction of a drone launched towards the Eastern Region of Saudi Arabia, according to a statement by its spokesperson Turki Al-Maliki.
On Thursday, the coalition announced the death of 19 people and the injury of 364 others due to Houthi attacks on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and Abha in southern Saudi Arabia, as well as the targeting of the Medina region. Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia has been leading a military coalition to support the Yemeni government against the Houthi group, which has controlled the capital Sanaa and several provinces since September 2014.
