UN Warns of Serious Risks to Gaza Children
UN warns of serious risks to Gaza children from continuous Israeli attacks and aid restrictions.

The United Nations expressed deep concern over the continuation of Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, warning that children face serious risks. Spokesperson for the Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric, during the daily press conference on Wednesday, said that officials of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs are deeply concerned about the continuation of attacks resulting in civilian casualties in Gaza.

Dujarric added that a UN convoy passed through the city of Khan Younis on Tuesday but had to change its course after being fired upon. He warned that children face injuries, hazardous labor, psychological pressures, and violence, noting that approximately 6,000 children are receiving psychological support services. He clarified that the UN continues to provide aid and winter supplies, while mine clearance teams continue field survey operations to ensure the safety of humanitarian operations.

For his part, Dujarric pointed out that Israel prevents the entry of heavy equipment necessary for removing hazardous materials, thereby hindering the resumption of explosive ordnance clearance work. Regarding the West Bank, he relayed a call from his colleagues in the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to donor countries to take urgent measures to protect Palestinian areas and not to settle for condemnations. He noted that movement restrictions have prevented thousands of farmers from reaching their olive trees, pointing to the continuation of daily attacks against Palestinian farmers.

The source indicated that Israel has been committing genocide since October 2023, during which it killed more than 74,000 and injured over 175,000, leaving destruction in approximately 90 percent of civilian infrastructure. As of Wednesday, Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement resulted in the death of 1,534 Palestinians and the injury of 5,486 others, according to the latest data from the Gaza Strip Ministry of Health.
