The University of Homs, in collaboration with the Syrian Association for Cancer Control in Homs, launched today, Sunday, an awareness event in front of the College of Architecture at the university, on the occasion of Pink Month, which takes place during October every year. This event aims to raise awareness about breast cancer and emphasize the importance of early detection and its crucial role in improving treatment outcomes and increasing recovery chances for patients.
The event included providing various awareness information, distributing educational brochures, and answering questions from students and visitors, with the participation of fourth-year medical students and postgraduate students in surgery and gynecology specialties. Vice President of the University of Homs for Scientific Affairs, Waleed Khaddam, told the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) the importance of awareness activities in spreading health culture and enhancing community awareness.
Khaddam pointed out that early detection and regular examinations improve treatment results and increase recovery chances. For his part, Ahmed Zahi Al-Shawaf, head of the Syrian Association for Cancer Control in Homs, clarified that the event aims to highlight the importance of early cancer detection, noting that discovering the disease in its early stages raises the chances of successful treatment and recovery.
Al-Shawaf added that raising awareness among students and youth helps transmit health information to their families and social circles, and encourages women to visit specialized centers. He pointed out the existence of a clinic at the university hospital for early breast cancer detection, which provides ultrasound and mammography services, noting that the association organizes periodic activities to support women with cancer and listen to their needs.
The event comes within the activities of Pink Month during October, aimed at raising awareness about breast cancer, consolidating the culture of prevention and early detection, and encouraging women to undergo regular examinations on a regular basis.
