US: 8 Key States in Senate Race
US midterm elections determine Senate control in 8 key states.

Attention is focused on 8 US states witnessing fierce electoral races for Senate seats, the results of which could be decisive in determining the party that will control the chamber during the midterm congressional elections scheduled for Tuesday.

Democrats need a net gain of 4 seats in both the Senate and the House to seize majorities in both. Voters across the United States are heading to the polls in elections that constitute a decisive battle for Senate majority control, which could affect President Donald Trump's ability to pass his legislative agenda during the last two years of his term.

Michigan

Democrat Abdurahman Siddik is competing against former Republican Representative Mike Rogers to succeed Democratic Senator Gary Peters, who has decided to retire. A poll conducted by the "Detroit News" and "WDIV-TV" channel, from October 19 to 22, showed Siddik leading with 51.4 percent of voting intentions, compared to 45.1 percent for Rogers.

Texas

Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is competing against Democrat James Talariqo for the seat that will be vacated by Republican Senator John Cornyn, following his decision to retire. A Democratic victory in this seat, if achieved, would be a major electoral surprise, given that the party has not won any Senate elections in Texas since 1988.

Other States

In Ohio, former Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown is seeking a return to the Senate by competing against Republican Senator John Husted. In Alaska, Republican Senator Dan Sullivan faces former Democratic Representative Mary Beltrando. Meanwhile, in Iowa, Republican Representative Ashley Hinson is competing against Democratic State Representative Josh Turric.

In Kansas, Republican Senator Roger Marshall faces the Democratic candidate and Reverend Adam Hamilton. Finally, in North Carolina, former Democratic Governor Roy Cooper is competing against former Chairman of the Republican National Committee Michael Watley for the seat that will be vacated by Republican Senator Tom Tillis.
