The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced the recording of 4,588 measles cases during the current year, indicating a wider spread of the epidemic compared to 2,289 confirmed cases in 2025. These cases were identified in 47 jurisdictions, with 42 new outbreak clusters, according to an update released yesterday and published by the American newspaper "The Hill" today, Saturday.
In the same context, official data indicated the recording of three measles deaths nationwide this year, while Pennsylvania alone recorded 1,338 cases in 44 counties, representing about 30 percent of the total cases in the country. This state reported five confirmed deaths, plus a sixth death still under investigation, after the local health administration announced on September 16 the recording of a fourth death linked to the disease.
For his part, the source clarified that 96 percent of those infected had not received the vaccine or their vaccination status was unknown, while 59 percent of cases were among people aged 19 or younger. Estimates suggest around 7,000 cases have been recorded since the beginning of 2025, with infectious disease experts likely believing the actual number is higher due to underreporting of some cases.
Sources added that the administration of US President Donald Trump announced on the ninth of the current month the creation of a new vaccine safety research center, aimed at studying rare side effects of vaccination, as announced by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The United States is currently experiencing the largest outbreak of a vaccine-preventable measles disease.
