US authorities arrested actress Salma Blair following an altercation during a flight from Los Angeles to New York, which resulted in injuries to at least two members of the flight crew, authorities announced on Tuesday. The star of the films "Legally Blonde" and "Cruel Intentions" was arrested at John F. Kennedy Airport after her Delta Air Lines flight landed on Monday evening, following reports of a passenger who caused physical harm.
Details of the Assaults
US media reported that Blair punched a member of the flight crew and bit another. Reports also stated that she later assaulted a police officer and a nurse while being transported to the hospital. A federal judicial source confirmed that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) issued a subpoena against Blair, which includes charges of assault on the plane.
Reactions and Legal Measures
For his part, a representative for Blair stated: "Salma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged behavior, and upon landing, she received immediate medical care, and she is currently in a stable condition." The actress appeared in court on charges of second-degree assault and was released on bail. A new court session for the case is scheduled for January 19, 2027.
A spokesperson for Delta Air Lines stated that the company "has zero tolerance for unruly or illegal behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew members always remains the top priority."
Previous Incidents
In 2016, Blair was removed from a plane on a stretcher after an episode of impulsive behavior during a flight. The actress said in an interview with "Vanity Fair" magazine following that incident: "I mixed alcohol with medication, which caused me to lose consciousness and led me to say and do things I deeply regret." She also revealed in her memoirs, published in 2022, that she had bitten several celebrities, including Kate Moss, noting that this usually happened in situations where she had consumed alcohol.
