US Polling Centers Closing Sequentially After Voting Ends
US midterm elections conclude as polling centers gradually close across multiple states amid a congressional race.

Polling centers in the United States closed sequentially after voters cast their ballots in the midterm congressional elections, amid competition between the Republican and Democratic parties for control of the House and Senate.

The Associated Press reported on Wednesday that polling center closures began at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday in parts of Indiana and Kentucky, before continuing in other states at 7:00, 8:00, and 9:00 p.m., reaching the last centers in parts of Alaska at 1:00 a.m.

The elections cover all 435 seats in the House of Representatives, along with 35 Senate seats, as well as gubernatorial elections in 36 states and various local positions and state-level referendums, amid competition for majorities in both chambers.

The agency noted that the closure of polling centers does not mean immediate final results, as vote counting and winner declarations may take hours or days in some states, depending on counting procedures and mail-in voting.

The Senate elections feature prominent competitions in several states, including Maine, New Hampshire, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio, Iowa, Kansas, Texas, and Alaska, which are the focal points of the race for a Senate majority.

These elections represent a significant political test for the US administration and competing parties, with widespread attention to their results and impact on domestic and foreign policy directions in the coming period.
