US Secretary of State: Trade Agreement with India Imminent
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirms that the US and India are very close to reaching a trade agreement.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed on Tuesday that the United States and India are very close to reaching a trade agreement, noting progress in ongoing negotiations between the two sides on several outstanding economic and commercial issues.

According to AFP, Rubio's remarks to journalists came during a three-day visit to India, as part of efforts by both countries to enhance economic cooperation and develop their strategic partnership, particularly in the energy sector.

The US minister pointed out that New Delhi has made tangible progress in its efforts to diversify energy supply sources, considering this step as enhancing energy security and providing broader options for the Indian economy.

Rubio held talks with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on ways to enhance cooperation in the fields of energy and defense, emphasizing the importance of developing strategic relations between the two countries in light of current economic and geopolitical changes.

Rubio expressed optimism about the possibility of reaching a final agreement in the near future, clarifying that negotiations have made significant progress, with only a limited number of issues remaining that require settlement.

Washington seeks to expand its energy exports to the Indian market, while New Delhi continues to balance its energy needs with its trade commitments and relations with various international partners.

US-Indian relations have seen rapid growth in recent years, driven by convergence of economic and strategic interests between the two countries.

Despite some differences regarding tariffs and trade, both sides continue working to conclude agreements that enhance trade, investment, and cooperation in the fields of energy, technology, and defense.
