Washington Approves $2.1 Billion Patriot Missile Deal for Ukraine
US approval to sell 500 Patriot missiles to Ukraine with full international funding, without using US funds to bolster air defense.

The US State Department approved on Friday a potential military sale to Ukraine involving 500 advanced PAC-3 MSE interceptors and related support equipment and services, with an estimated total value of $2.1 billion. The department confirmed that funding will be provided entirely through contributions from European and international partners, without using US funds.

For its part, the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs clarified that the deal responds to the Ukrainian government's request to purchase 500 PAC-3 MSE missiles, along with classified and unclassified spare parts, other equipment, and services related to logistical support and program implementation. The statement noted that the proposed deal aims to enhance Ukraine's air and missile defense capabilities and improve Kyiv's ability to confront current and future threats.

The statement added that the deal will be funded through contributions from Canada, Germany, and Norway via the "JUMPSTART" program, alongside national resources funded by the European Union's Ukraine Support Loan. It pointed out that Lockheed Martin, headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, is the prime contractor for implementing the deal, with compensation issues to be studied during negotiations.

The State Department emphasized that implementing the proposed sale will not require sending additional US government or contractor representatives to Ukraine, nor will it negatively affect US defense readiness. According to department data, the United States has provided military support to Ukraine since 2014, with total military aid reaching approximately $69.2 billion as of January 2025.
