Washington: Syria plays a leading role in new regional alliance
UN: Hate speech threatens social cohesion

The United States announced that Syria, with US support, has played "a leading role in a new regional alliance for diplomacy", stressing that Damascus has cooperated with partners to dismantle "terrorist" networks.

This came in a speech by the US Deputy Representative to the United Nations, Tammy Bruce, last night during a Security Council session on the situation in Syria.

Bruce said Damascus continues to cooperate to dismantle human trafficking networks as well as many ISIS cells, stressing that the United States will continue to work with Syria to keep it stable, noting that there are opportunities for progress and making the region more stable and prosperous.

For her part, Russia's Deputy Permanent Representative to the Security Council, Anna Yevstegneva, stressed that Israel's aggressive activity against Syria is a major destabilizing factor, calling on Israel to return to strict adherence to the relevant Security Council resolutions.

In her speech, she stressed that the humanitarian situation in Syria has not improved due to the chronic lack of funding, and that the floods have exacerbated the food crisis, SANA reported.

For its part, China stressed in its representative Fu Zhuzong's speech that Syria is an important country in the Middle East, and that helping it restore peace and stability is a common goal of the international community.

He stressed that the Syrian Golan is occupied Syrian territory, and that Israel's military presence in the separation zone lacks a legal basis, calling for withdrawal from Syrian territory.

Al-Olabi: Syria stands with Lebanon's options

Syria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ibrahim Alabi, affirmed the Syrian government's commitment to continue working to uncover the fate of the missing and forcibly disappeared, and to proceed with the path of transitional justice without compromise.

Al-Olabi said that Syria has become an effective partner in the fight against terrorism and transnational crime, and is preparing to participate in the Counter-Terrorism Week with a high-level delegation, while stressing that Damascus stands by Lebanon and its options and supports its official institutions.

While welcoming the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran aimed at ending the war, he stressed that Israel's position not to withdraw from the Syrian territories it occupied after December 24, 2024, confirms that it is the main obstacle to stability in Syria despite American mediation.

He said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is "stepping up and challenging the world, and Syria is choosing wisdom and diplomacy, and working with its partners."

On the domestic front, Al-Olabi explained that the number of detainees from the former regime has reached about six thousand people, including dozens of senior officers, as part of the transitional justice process, calling on the international community to support this process, adding that Syria is completing the collection of naturalization applications for Syrian Kurds covered by Decree 13.

The representative of Syria pointed out that the government is working to create conditions for the return of refugees and displaced persons, stressing the return of more than 3 million and 500 thousand people, while stressing that Syria continues to fight battles on behalf of the world against ISIS, arms smuggling, drugs, and cross-border crime, in addition to the threat of Assad's chemical program.

UN: Hate speech threatens social cohesion

During a UN Security Council session on the situation in Syria, Cordone called for dialogue and confidence-building measures to ensure the preservation of national unity.

Hate speech threatens social cohesion and undermines efforts to rebuild the country, Cordone warned, stressing that the United Nations is working in cooperation with the Syrian government and civil society organizations to address this phenomenon.

The UN official pointed out that the UN is focused on supporting the Syrian government and people in facing the current challenges and moving towards a stable and inclusive future, expressing the organization's support for transitional justice efforts and holding those responsible for crimes committed against Syrians accountable.

The trial of Atef Najib and others accused of repression reflects a commitment to the principle of accountability and due process, he said, stressing the continued implementation of the integration agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces, noting that progress has been made in the return of displaced people to Afrin.

In a related context, Cordone accused Israel of continuing its aggression on Syrian territory through near-daily incursions into a number of areas and the detention of Syrian citizens, reiterating the UN's call on it to abide by the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, release detainees and respect Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The UN official concluded his speech by welcoming the Syrian government's efforts in combating terrorism, including ongoing cooperation with regional partners.
