Washington, Tokyo, and Seoul Confirm Commitment to Korean Denuclearization
The three nations reaffirm their commitment to denuclearization and enhanced security cooperation.

The United States, Japan, and South Korea reaffirmed their commitment to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the full implementation of United Nations Security Council resolutions, emphasizing the necessity of maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region.

This came during a trilateral meeting held by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio with his Japanese counterpart Toshimitsu Motegi and South Korean counterpart Cho Hyun, on the sidelines of the G20 meetings in Atlanta, USA.

The three ministers discussed enhancing security and economic cooperation and signed a memorandum of cooperation to launch the Trilateral Arctic and Pacific Partnership (TAPP) to explore maritime and economic cooperation areas in the region.

The ministers praised the work of the Multilateral Sanctions Monitoring Team (MSMT) in uncovering North Korea's violations and circumventions of Security Council resolutions, reaffirming the ban on supporting revenue-generating activities used to fund its nuclear and missile programs.

For his part, the ministers confirmed their opposition to economic coercion and the use of supply chains as a tool for pressure, and reviewed the implementation of the cooperation memorandum on the deployment of small modular nuclear reactors, signed in Ankara on July 7 last year, with the aim of enhancing global energy security.

The ministers renewed their commitment to the trilateral statement issued on September 21, 2026, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings, regarding the firm commitment of the three countries to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, and continuing meetings and coordination at various levels.
