Water Resources in Tartus Enhance Readiness of Al-Abresh Dam Gate Control System
Tartus Water Resources Directorate completes power cable extension for Al-Abresh Dam gate control panels to ensure safe, continuous operation.

The Water Resources Directorate in Tartus has completed the extension of power supply cables for the control panels of the Al-Abresh Dam gates in the right and left balance towers, aiming to ensure safe and continuous operation and enhance the readiness of the control system for this strategic water facility.

For his part, Muhammad Mahraz, Director of Water Resources in Tartus, clarified that the dam includes two pedestrian bridges connecting the dam body to the balance towers, which are used for maintenance purposes and to serve the gates located inside the towers. He pointed out that metal pipes with a diameter of 3 inches and a length of 60 meters were installed on each pedestrian bridge to pass the power supply cables through them and protect them from external factors.

He added that these works aim to ensure continuous power supply to the control and operation panels, given the importance of the two dam gates—one for irrigation and the other for bottom discharge in flood cases—and their need for electricity to operate the hydraulic pumping units responsible for raising and closing the gates, each weighing 17 tons.

Mahraz indicated that the works began on October 19 and were carried out by the maintenance workshops affiliated with the dam. The Water Resources Directorate in Tartus had previously completed maintenance and technical inspection works for several irrigation facilities at Al-Abresh Dam on October 5, aiming to maintain their readiness and ensure the continuous supply of water to irrigation networks, meeting the needs of benefiting agricultural lands.

Al-Abresh Dam is considered one of the largest dams in Tartus Governorate, with a storage capacity of 103 million cubic meters, irrigating 10,160 hectares of agricultural land.
