The hardship in the Jabal Shashbo area in the countryside of Hama, where about 20 villages live in the Ghab Plain, due to the absence of basic infrastructure and service facilities, constitutes a major obstacle to the return of displaced residents from northern Syria to their homes. Residents suffer from heavy financial burdens in securing essential services, which hinders their stability in their villages.
Abdulqader Al-Bakour, from the residents of Shir Maghar village, pointed out that the village lacks road, drinking water, and electricity services, noting that there is no hospital or health center in the neighboring villages. He added that residents are forced to travel 30 km to reach the nearest medical point in emergency and treatment cases.
For his part, Awad Al-Sheihan, head of the council of Al-Sahriya town, which includes 20 villages extending geographically for about 30 km, clarified that the area lacks basic prerequisites. He pointed out the existence of 5 wells belonging to the municipality, with pumps and solar energy installed for 3 of them, but they do not meet the need due to the unpreparedness of water lines. He noted that the number of residents is 17,000, with only four villages having organizational plans.
Al-Sheihan added that the medical point in Al-Mustairaha village is insufficient, and the nearest point in Qalat Al-Madiq does not serve the area due to distance and limited working hours. He pointed out that some schools are out of service, while the area lacks a communications network, with electricity poles being stolen. He emphasized that the delay in return is due to the unpreparedness of infrastructure and weak financial capacities, calling for the provision of security points.
Jabal Shashbo is located in the northwestern part of Hama province, overlooking the Ghab Plain. The area was subjected to attacks by the tyrannical regime, which forced its people to flee to camps in northern Syria.
