Significant rise in attack frequency
The Palestinian Wall and Settlement Resistance Authority announced on Monday that the Israeli army and settlers carried out 3,133 attacks in the occupied West Bank during last October, representing an increase of 52.8% compared to September. The government-affiliated authority stated in its monthly report that the Israeli army carried out 1,764 attacks, while settlers carried out 1,369 attacks, with a recorded rise in settler attacks of 111.6% compared to the previous month, which saw 647 attacks.
Targeting property and agriculture
Attacks varied between shooting and physical assault on Palestinians, damaging property and agricultural lands, burning trees and vehicles, seizing property, closing roads, and preventing citizens from accessing their lands. In the context of attacks on agricultural lands, settlers targeted 5,890 trees, including 4,498 olive trees, without clarifying the nature of the damage. The Authority also documented 165 incidents of olive fruit theft, the theft of 384 sheep, 45 vehicles, 9 agricultural tractors, 4 bulldozers, as well as other equipment and property.
Settlement expansion and widespread demolition
Settlers began establishing 28 new outposts during October, mostly concentrated in the Hebron Governorate, followed by the Nablus and Ramallah and al-Bireh Governorates. The occupation authorities issued five military orders and announcements targeting Palestinian lands totaling 229.561 dunams, of which 182.81 dunams were declared "state lands." In the demolition file, 62 operations were carried out affecting 129 Palestinian facilities, including 64 homes, 14 livelihood facilities, and 46 agricultural facilities, causing damage to 220 Palestinians, including 125 children and 45 women.
Structural and future plans
The Authority identified 10 structural plans targeting lands in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and launched 5 settlement tenders involving the construction of 1,629 settlement units, including 1,279 units in East Jerusalem and 350 in the Ma'ale Adumim settlement. The Authority considered that these figures reflect a simultaneous escalation in attacks by the army and settlers, land seizures, and settlement expansion, within a policy targeting the Palestinian presence. Since October 8, 2023, these attacks have resulted in the killing of more than 1,220 Palestinians, the injury of approximately 13,350 others, and the arrest of more than 26,000.
