The messaging app "WhatsApp" has begun testing a new feature that allows iPhone users to schedule messages and set a specific time for sending them, a move aimed at providing greater flexibility in using the app.
Details of the new feature
The site "WABetaInfo", which specializes in following WhatsApp news and its experimental features, stated on Friday that the feature has started reaching a limited group of users on the "iOS" beta version, after appearing previously in the beta version for Android.
The feature allows users to write the message, then long-press the send button to access the scheduling interface, where they can select the desired date and time before confirming the process.
Scope of support and limitations
According to the site, messages can be scheduled to be sent between ten minutes and two weeks in advance. Scheduled messages appear in a dedicated section within the chat or group information, with the ability to review them before the scheduled sending time.
The feature supports scheduling text messages, images, videos, and links. However, sending multiple images or videos within a single scheduling process is currently unavailable, requiring a separate schedule for each item.
Sending mechanism in groups
In group chats, the scheduled message is sent to members present in the group at the time the message was scheduled, according to information published by the site. Members who join later do not receive the scheduled messages, even if they were present in the group at the time of sending.
The feature is still under testing for a limited group of users, and no date has been announced yet for its availability to all app users.
