The World Health Organization announced the documentation of 228 attacks on healthcare services in Sudan since the outbreak of conflict on April 15, 2023, resulting in the deaths of 2,055 people and injuring 817 others. This came in a statement issued by the organization on Tuesday regarding the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification warning of food insecurity and malnutrition in Sudan.

In the same context, the statement noted that the classification warned of an increasing risk of famine in some areas of Darfur and Kordofan, where conflicts, mass displacement, severe drought, and a lack of humanitarian aid funding have led to a rapid deterioration of conditions. It pointed out that healthcare services in Sudan are very limited and often completely inaccessible.

It also highlighted the increasing scarcity of clean water across the country, emphasizing that this makes malnourished populations highly vulnerable to disease and death. The organization explained that 37 percent of health facilities in the country became out of service by 2026.

For its part, the organization revealed that only 23 percent of the value of its humanitarian appeal, amounting to $97.7 million, has been funded, calling for increased aid and ensuring its continued delivery to prevent the worsening of the situation. Since April 2023, Sudan has witnessed a war between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths and approximately 13 million displaced persons, according to UN and international estimates.
