The Syrian Civil Defense Directorate at the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management announced on Thursday morning that 27 injuries of varying severity were recorded among citizens, as a result of a wide series of fires and traffic accidents that hit all Syrian governorates during the past 24 hours.
In a statement, the Directorate confirmed that the ambulance and fire cadres have mobilized all their field energies to respond immediately to these simultaneous reports, and to reduce human and material losses.
Traffic accidents eat away at road safety
The Civil Defense reported on its official channel on the "Telegram" application that its ambulance teams responded urgently to 24 horrific traffic accidents in different parts of the country.
These incidents resulted in the injury of 24 civilians with various injuries and bruises, as medical teams rushed to provide first aid to the injured at the scene of the incident, before immediately transferring them to nearby hospitals to receive the necessary treatment. The rescue operations were paralleled by intensive movement of displacement teams and services who worked to remove debris and the effects of collisions, and secure roads to ensure that there were no sequential accidents and that traffic was restored to normal.
Fires devour agricultural crops
The brave fire brigades extinguished 217 fires that broke out in a few hours across the country, and the agricultural fires were the biggest challenge for firefighters, as 22 huge fires consumed strategic fields and agricultural crops before containing their flames.
In parallel, teams dealt with 195 sporadic fires in residential homes, shops, areas of dry grass, trees, garbage, as well as diamonds in electrical wires.
The fire resulted in 3 civilian injuries who were immediately rescued, while the refrigeration teams were able to control the rest of the fires without additional human injuries, limiting the damage to heavy material losses.
Strict official warnings for citizens and drivers to avoid disasters
The official authorities in the Civil Defense issued urgent appeals and stressed the need for drivers to exercise the utmost caution and caution while driving, reiterating the importance of reducing speed on highways, ensuring the technical condition of the vehicle, and the safety of the brakes and windshield wipers. The leadership also called for avoiding wrong behaviors that distract from concentration, foremost of which is the use of mobile phones.
On the issue of fires, the Directorate called on residents and farmers not to set fire to forest areas, to completely refrain from throwing cigarette butts or glass bottles, and to avoid burning dry grass around houses in unsafe ways to prevent new environmental and economic disasters.
This massive wave of simultaneous incidents and fires highlights the growing public safety challenges in Syria as the summer intensifies, as the country witnesses an alarming rise in daily incidents.
It is noteworthy that yesterday (Tuesday) also witnessed the injury of 14 people as a result of 264 fires and traffic accidents that the Syrian Civil Defense teams responded to, which shows the continuation of the great field pressure on the teams of the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management in the face of these recurring crises.
