Wolf praises Antonelli after winning the United States Grand Prix
Toto Wolf lauds Antonelli's exceptional performance, while Russell's title hopes fade.

Italian Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli gave his team principal Toto Wolf nine victories that inspire optimism this season, after dominating the United States Grand Prix as part of the Formula 1 World Championship after starting from pole position.

Wolf said after Antonelli's victory: "Regarding Antonelli, the most important thing to say is that this is the best race he has given so far. He started from the starting line using lower-quality tires, then dominated the race throughout. It was a race given by a champion who has not yet become a champion, but it was exceptional. I think he outperformed the car. His driving style matches the car perfectly."

For his part, the young Italian driver, aged 20, expressed agreement with his team principal, adding: "I think it was one of the best races because of the way we developed throughout the weekend. As you know, it was a great collective effort, especially regarding strategy, as we believed in a one-stop strategy, and everyone deserves this result."

Antonelli continued: "We certainly had the fastest car at Monza. We were very fast, so of course it was incredibly special to start from the back of the grid, but it was also a track that was relatively easy to overtake on. I will remember the race forever, but perhaps the United States Grand Prix was better in terms of execution. The way we built performance throughout the weekend was good."

The Italian driver, who is set to become the youngest champion in Formula 1 history in Mexico at the beginning of next week, won by a margin of more than 13 seconds, following a one-stop strategy.

As for George Russell, his teammate and closest rival for the title, who trails by 123 points, with 125 points remaining to be won in the championship, he started from sixth place and finished eighth, making his chances of competing for the title slim.
