Woman dies after building wall collapses in Jaramana due to storms
Civil defense responds to heavy rains and strong winds in Damascus countryside, resulting in death, injuries, and material damage.

Casualties and material damage

Civil defense teams in the Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Management in Damascus countryside province responded today, Tuesday, to a number of reports resulting from strong winds and heavy rains that affected several areas in the province. These weather conditions resulted in the death of a woman and material damage, in addition to fallen trees and various accidents in different affected areas.

Incident details and response

Waleed Kabish, director of the operations center at the Directorate of Emergency and Disaster Management in Damascus countryside province, told a SANA correspondent that a woman died after a wall of a building under construction collapsed in Jaramana city, noting that residents rushed her to the hospital. Kabish explained that the teams' response covered the areas of Jaramana, Zamalka, and the Ghouta Road – Mleha, where they dealt with an electrical fire in a residential apartment and a fire in an electrical transformer.

Preventive measures

The teams also rescued a girl who was trapped on the balcony of one of the buildings, and responded to the collapse of a false ceiling and fallen trees in several streets in Jaramana, Zamalka, and the Ghouta Road – Mleha. Kabish noted that the teams worked to extinguish fires, secure damaged sites, remove obstacles, and open roads to facilitate traffic flow, urging residents to exercise caution and stay away from damaged buildings.

Strong winds and heavy rains increase the risks of falling trees and unsecured objects, especially in residential areas and public roads, necessitating the adoption of preventive measures and adherence to safety guidelines to minimize accidents and injuries.
