Official data on violations

Yemeni Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Mukhtar al-Yafei announced on Wednesday, during a press conference in the temporary capital Aden, that 79 civilians were killed and 206 others injured in Taiz Governorate over approximately two months. He stated that the ministry documented 494 violations against civilians between August 10 and October 15, 2026, affecting 56 residential facilities, 12 educational institutions, and 8 health centers, in addition to 10 roads and bridges.

Displacement and siege conditions

The minister clarified that field monitoring showed the displacement of 19,600 families comprising 135,587 people from various directorates in Taiz, including 52,979 children. For his part, Taiz Governor Nabil Shamsan said that 2,347,762 people live under siege in six directorates, with 6,400 families recently displaced within the city. He pointed out that 64 civilians were killed and 173 others injured from August until October 20, with 676 homes damaged.

Deterioration of health services

The governor warned of threats to the continuity of services in 12 hospitals and 18 health centers, with 120 health facilities completely halted and 66 partially halted in areas controlled by the Houthis. He explained that the lack of services affects 186,415 children under the age of five and 22,986 pregnant women, amid a military escalation that ended the relative calm since April 2022.

Reality of military control

Taiz is witnessing a division of control between government forces and the Houthis, with unofficial reports indicating Houthi advances in rural and coastal areas. Estimates suggest the Houthis control more than 70 percent of the governorate's area, without official statistics, amidst ongoing battles and shifting frontlines since the war began in 2014.
