Yemeni Army Announces Death and Injury of Over 35 Houthis in Taiz
The Yemeni army announces the death and injury of more than 35 Houthi members in a military operation targeting their positions in Taiz province.

Military Operation in Taiz

The Yemeni Army announced on Friday the death and injury of more than 35 members of the Houthi group in a military operation targeting positions of the group in Taiz province in the southwest of the country. This came in a statement issued by the "35th Armored Brigade" affiliated with the Yemeni Army, which Anadolu Agency reviewed.

Details of the Attack

The statement mentioned that army forces carried out a distinctive and swift military operation targeting positions and fortifications where the Houthi militia is stationed in the Al-Aqrud front in the Masrak directorate in the countryside of Taiz province. It clarified that the operation targeted positions in Jabal Al-Manara, Kour, Wadi Kour, Al-Maqda, Al-Dubayya, and Kuhlan, resulting in the death and injury of more than 35 Houthi members, without specifying the number of dead and wounded.

Results of the Operation

According to the statement, the operation also resulted in disabling a military crew (armed vehicle) and destroying militia fortifications in the targeted sites. There was no immediate comment from the Houthi group regarding what the Yemeni Army reported.

Regional Context

For weeks, Taiz province has witnessed fierce battles between the Yemeni Army and the Houthi group, resulting in hundreds of dead and wounded from both sides. Taiz holds strategic importance as a geographical bridge and a vital link between the northern provinces of Yemen, and controlling it means controlling supply lines and transport arteries between the temporary capital Aden and the central and northern provinces.

These developments fall within a military escalation that began last July, considered the widest since the relative calm Yemen witnessed following a truce that started in April 2022. Since October 5, the Yemeni Army has continued the "Yemen Dawn" military operation, aimed at restoring state institutions from the Houthis and controlling the capital Sanaa.

Yemen has been witnessing a war since the Houthis took control of Sanaa and several provinces in September 2014, before an Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia intervened in March 2015, in support of the Yemeni government.
