A Yemeni coalition comprising 22 political parties and components praised Egypt's stance, describing it as a "responsible historic" position in supporting and backing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in confronting what it described as the threat of Iran-backed Houthi militias.
In the same context, this praise came in a statement issued by the National Coalition of Political Parties and Components, published via its account on the "X" platform on Sunday evening, where the coalition affirmed its full support for the Egyptian leadership's decision to participate in defending the Kingdom's security after its civilian infrastructure was subjected to Houthi aggression.
For its part, the coalition pointed out that Saudi Arabia has led the coalition for supporting legitimacy in Yemen since 2015 to defend its security and sovereignty, considering the Egyptian stance a manifestation of the deep fraternal relations between the Egyptian and Saudi peoples, and a recognition of the severity of the situation resulting from the Iran-backed Houthi rebellion.
The coalition added that it warns that Houthi threats to freedom of navigation in the Red Sea represent a threat to international peace and security, calling on Egypt to support and back the Yemeni government in confronting this threat, considering Arab solidarity positions a national necessity that transcends national security boundaries.
These developments come amid continuous military escalation between Saudi Arabia and the Houthi group since July last year, which included attacks by the group using missiles and drones on civilian facilities and vital installations in the Kingdom.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi had announced on Saturday the readiness of his country to take any measure to defend Saudi Arabia if requested, and called on the House of Representatives to hold an emergency session to discuss authorizing the armed forces to take this action.
A day later, the Egyptian House of Representatives held a session chaired by Hesham Badawi to discuss the authorization, before adjourning and setting Monday as the date to resume discussions, without announcing the issuance of a decision regarding it.
On Sunday, the Egyptian National Defense Council decided, during a meeting chaired by el-Sisi, to provide "all necessary and possible forms of support" to Saudi Arabia to defend its security, stability, and territorial integrity.
Yemen has been witnessing a war since the Houthis seized control of the capital Sanaa and several provinces in September 2014, before the intervention of an Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia in March 2015, in support of the internationally recognized Yemeni government.
