Members of the Yemeni community in Berlin organized a protest rally today, Monday, calling on the German government, the European Union, the United Nations, and the international community to exert effective pressure on the Houthi militia to lift the siege on the city of Taiz and halt its attacks on Yemeni cities.
The protesters, in a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency, demanded the opening of all roads, ensuring freedom of movement for citizens, and the delivery of food, water, medicine, and fuel. They also called for an end to shelling of residential neighborhoods and the cessation of missile and drone attacks launched by the militias on the governorates of Shabwa, Aden, Marib, Hadhramaut, and other governorates.
The statement emphasized the need to protect civilians and public facilities, take legal measures to designate the Houthi militias as a terrorist organization, hold those responsible for their crimes accountable, support relief efforts and mine clearance, and reject any arrangements that entrench the authority of armed groups outside the framework of the state.
For his part, participants clarified that the Houthi militia has committed killings, persecution, arbitrary arrests, kidnappings, and enforced disappearances, recruited children, planted landmines, and displaced families in order to impose a racist project based on the claim of inherited right to rule, undermining the republic and equal citizenship.
The statement pointed to the necessity of taking effective measures to protect international navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and to counter threats targeting regional security, trade routes, and energy supplies, thereby preserving Yemen's sovereignty and the interests of its people.
The statement held the Houthi militia politically, morally, and legally responsible for its coup against the state, the war it waged against Yemenis, the crimes and violations it committed, and the suffering and destruction it caused to the country's capabilities. It called for holding the perpetrators of these crimes accountable, vindicating the victims, and the immediate release of the kidnapped and those subjected to enforced disappearance.
In the same context, a protest rally was organized the day before yesterday in front of the European Parliament in Brussels, calling on the European Union to intensify its efforts to pressure for an end to the siege on the city of Taiz and to permanently and safely open main roads, ensuring freedom of movement for civilians and facilitating the delivery of aid and essential goods.
