Yemeni Foreign Minister Sets 5 Conditions for Peace, Including Disarming Houthis
Yemen's FM outlines five prerequisites for peace, prioritizing Houthi disarmament and political integration.

Yemeni Foreign Minister Afrah al-Zoubi, in an interview with Anadolu Agency in Istanbul, announced the establishment of five basic conditions for achieving peace in Yemen, with the disarmament of the Houthi group and their transformation into a political component within the state's political structure at the forefront. Al-Zoubi emphasized that the Houthis are not a genuine partner for peace, noting that the military operation "Yemen Dawn," launched by President of the Presidential Leadership Council Rashad al-Alimi on October 5, aims to liberate the country from militia control and restore the state's strength and sovereignty.

In the same context, the Yemeni minister pointed out that the Houthis exploited previous negotiation rounds to arm themselves and develop their capabilities, turning them into a force threatening Yemen, the region, and the world. She explained that the Houthis seek to transform Yemen into a platform for launching attacks on neighboring countries, noting that terrorist attacks on Saudi Arabia fall within this context, and that the group violates Yemen's sovereignty and cooperates with terrorist organizations in the Horn of Africa and other areas.

For her part, Al-Zoubi stressed the necessity of implementing the agreed-upon basic references to achieve peace, including UN Security Council Resolution 2216, the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference, and the Gulf Cooperation Council initiative. She noted that the Houthis, backed by Iran, have developed their military capabilities over 12 years, gaining the ability to manufacture or assemble weapon parts inside Yemen, and have begun training other groups, such as the Somali Al-Shabaab movement, on using equipment.

She added that Taiz Governorate is witnessing the most significant field developments, where government forces have regained control of parts of the Bab al-Mandab strait, while the Houthis have imposed a partial siege on the city, preventing civilians from accessing water, food, and medicine. She noted that Taiz is home to approximately 4 million people and holds strategic importance as a geographical bridge connecting northern and southern Yemen, highlighting Turkey's pivotal role in maintaining regional security and stability.
