Yemen calls on the UN Security Council to condemn Houthi attacks on civilians and infrastructure.

The Yemeni government has called on the UN Security Council to condemn the Houthi militia's targeting of government and service facilities, residential neighborhoods, and civilian assets, as well as attacks on civilians, demanding an end to these acts and holding the perpetrators accountable for their serious consequences.

The Yemeni Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates website stated that this request came in two letters addressed to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the October Security Council President Aglia Belta, regarding the escalation by the Houthi militia and the attack on the Maashiq Presidential Palace in Aden.

The ministry clarified that the attack carried out with missiles and drones on October 15 resulted in the death of five security personnel and injured sixteen others, considering the targeting of the presidential and government headquarters an escalation threatening Yemen's security and stability.

The two letters pointed out Houthi militia attacks on residential neighborhoods and displaced persons' gatherings in Marib, and assaults on civilians and residential areas in Taiz and Lahej, in addition to repeated attacks on Aden International Airport, warning of the consequences of these acts on civilians and regional security.

The letters emphasized the need for full implementation of Security Council resolutions 2140 and 2216, and taking practical measures to prevent the arrival of weapons, missiles, drones, and their components to the Houthi militia, while enhancing cooperation with the Yemeni government in information exchange, technical assistance, and capacity building.

Earlier, on October 14, the Yemeni government had called on the UN and the UN Security Council to take urgent and effective steps to end the siege on the city of Taiz and open roads and crossings for civilians and humanitarian supplies, warning of the worsening humanitarian situation in the governorate due to the Houthi militia's escalation.
