Yemeni Government: Houthi Attacks Threaten Regional Security and Stability
The Yemeni government condemns renewed Houthi attacks on Aden and Mecca, calling for international accountability.

The Yemeni government condemned on Friday the renewal of Houthi militia attacks on the Maashiq Palace and Aden International Airport, coinciding with an attempt to target Mecca. It affirmed that these attacks reflect an escalatory approach that goes beyond targeting state institutions and civilian facilities to threatening regional security and stability, and showing disregard for the sanctity of Islamic holy sites.

A statement issued by the Yemeni Council of Ministers clarified that the repeated targeting of Aden International Airport represents an attempt to disrupt the work of public institutions and undermine the state's ability to fulfill its commitments. It added that targeting the Maashiq Palace, the seat of the government and state institutions in the temporary capital Aden, will not change the fact that the state is proceeding with its responsibilities, nor will it achieve for the militia what it seeks in terms of disrupting legitimate institutions or imposing a reality by force.

The statement stressed that the government treats these attacks as a direct threat to state authority, citizen safety, and the continuity of services and vital facilities. This necessitates a comprehensive institutional response that goes beyond reactions to taking practical measures including protecting facilities, raising the level of security readiness, enhancing coordination among competent authorities, and taking necessary measures to ensure the uninterrupted operation of institutions and civilian facilities.

The government affirmed that protecting citizens and public facilities and securing the temporary capital Aden is a national responsibility that tolerates no negligence, and that the repetition of attacks will not deter it from fulfilling its duties towards citizens, enhancing the presence of its institutions, and exercising its constitutional powers, in coordination with the Presidential Leadership Council, local authorities, and military and security apparatuses, ensuring the cohesion of state institutions and their ability to confront challenges.

In this context, the Yemeni government expressed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia in facing threats targeting its security, noting that the coincidence of these attacks with an attempt to target Mecca places the international community before a clear responsibility regarding behavior that threatens regional security, freedom of air navigation, and civilian facilities, extending to infringing upon the holiest Muslim sanctuaries.

It added that confronting these threats requires a practical international stance commensurate with their severity, preventing their continuation, and ensuring those responsible are held accountable. The coalition supporting legitimacy had previously announced intercepting and destroying two drones launched by the militia towards the Mecca and Medina regions.
