Yemeni Network Documents 53 Houthi Violations in Taiz Over Two Days
Report documents three civilians killed and 19 injured by Houthi shelling in Taiz amid ongoing siege.

The Yemeni Network for Human Rights and Freedoms documented that the Houthi militia committed 53 crimes and violations against civilians and civilian property in Taiz Governorate, in addition to firing approximately 417 projectiles on residential areas, during the past 48 hours. This escalation coincided with the continuation of the siege and the obstruction of population movement and the arrival of essential supplies to the area.

The Network clarified in a report published today, Sunday, that the documented facts included killing and injuring through shelling and sniping, abduction and detention in unknown places, raiding homes, and targeting residential neighborhoods and public roads. The violations also included breaching civilian facilities and looting their contents, planting explosive devices and mines in civilian passages, alongside tightening restrictions on population movement and the arrival of food, medicine, and fuel.

The Network pointed out that Houthi militia attacks resulted in the death of three civilians, including a boy and a girl, and a 51-year-old woman who was hit by a sniper bullet belonging to the militia in Al-Ammad village, in Al-Aqroud isolation, in Al-Masrak directorate. The report also documented the injury of 19 civilians, including four women and seven children, one of whom was a two-year-old child injured by shrapnel in the head after his home was targeted by a mortar shell fired by the militia in the Najd Al-Arous area.

The report noted that Houthi shelling during the period covered by the documentation focused on the Kuhlan area and surrounding villages in Sabr Al-Mawadim directorate, southeast of Taiz city, which has been subjected to intense shelling for days. The shelling also included the villages of Daba, Al-Qahfa, Al-Ammad, and other areas in Al-Aqroud in Al-Masrak directorate, and the Najd Al-Arous area. The Network's field team documented the militia planting explosive devices and mines in civilian passages in Al-Mukaysha village in the Quds area in Al-Mawassit directorate, south of Taiz Governorate, which caused injuries to a child and his sister.

The Network warned that the continuation of the fire siege on the areas of Kuhlan, Al-Aqroud, Al-Rahn, and Al-Arida, southeast of Taiz city, and the obstruction of the arrival of ambulance teams and medical and food aid, exacerbate the suffering of civilians. It indicated that this prevents the evacuation of the wounded and sick, and threatens to turn treatable injuries into deaths that could have been prevented. The report confirmed that residents of Taiz city are facing worsening humanitarian conditions due to the siege and repeated shelling of residential neighborhoods, and the resulting casualties, amid the declining capacity of families and health facilities to bear the consequences of these conditions.

Amid these violations, the Network issued an urgent call for help to the international community to intervene immediately to save civilians besieged in Taiz, especially in the areas of Kuhlan, Al-Aqroud, Al-Rahn, and Al-Arida. It called for pressuring the militia to stop the random shelling and targeting of villages and residential neighborhoods, and to end the fire siege and restrictions imposed on population movement and essential supplies. The Network stressed that protecting civilians and enabling the wounded and sick to access treatment is a humanitarian necessity that cannot be delayed.

The Yemeni Network for Human Rights and Freedoms had previously documented, in a report published on October 30, 2264 crimes and violations committed by the Houthi militia against civilians in Taiz Governorate, during the period from September 1 to October 29. The previous escalation included killing, injury, abduction, shelling, and targeting homes and civilian facilities.
