Yemeni Network for Human Rights: 1,891 violations in Taiz over 52 days
Report documents 212 civilian deaths and 280,000 displaced due to Houthi escalation in Taiz between September and October 2026.

The Yemeni Network for Human Rights and Freedoms documented 1,891 crimes and violations committed by the Houthi militia against civilians and civilian property in Taiz Governorate, during the period from September 1 to October 22, 2026. The Network warned of worsening humanitarian conditions due to military escalation and tightened siege on the governorate, noting that the violations included killing, injuring, field executions, kidnapping, enforced disappearance, and torture.

The Network clarified in a report published on the "X" platform titled "Taiz.. The Bloody Invasion and Systematic Killing" that these crimes resulted in the death of 212 civilians, including 38 children and 27 women, and injured 319 other civilians. It pointed out that the tally includes 23 field execution crimes targeting the wounded and military personnel, 5 mass massacres, in addition to 314 cases of kidnapping and enforced disappearance, including 14 children held hostage to pressure their families.

In the same context, the Houthi militia raided 516 homes searching for individuals cooperating with government forces, breached and searched 75 homes, while 356 homes were damaged by shelling, including 98 homes completely destroyed. It noted the conversion of 5 schools into military operations rooms and weapons stores, the targeting of 3 ambulances and 3 health facilities, and the killing of 5 medical staff members, in addition to the closure of approximately 23 commercial centers and 5 health facilities.

The report added that the militia fired approximately 9,876 projectiles, including mortar shells, artillery, and Katyusha rockets, mostly targeting residential neighborhoods. It emphasized the tightening of the siege on Taiz since September 3, establishing 26 checkpoints, and cutting the main road linking Taiz and Lahj to the temporary capital Aden, which hindered the arrival of food, medicine, and essential supplies.

For its part, the report indicated that the violations caused the displacement of approximately 280,000 people from Taiz Governorate, fleeing shelling and deteriorating living conditions. The Network called on the international community and the United Nations to declare Taiz a disaster-stricken city, take urgent action to stop the aggression and lift the siege, and ensure that those responsible for the violations are not left unpunished.
