The "YouTube" platform is testing a new policy that grants content creators a grace period of up to 30 days to address violations that could lead to the permanent closure of their channels, by editing or deleting violating videos, or submitting an appeal, instead of closing channels immediately.
The "Dexerto" website, specializing in gaming and digital technology news, reported on Monday that the trial was announced on October 29, targeting channels at risk of closure due to specific types of violations of the anti-spam policy.
Temporary restriction period
Under the experimental policy, eligible channels enter a temporary restriction period lasting 30 days, during which owners receive email notifications and messages via the "YouTube Studio" platform clarifying the nature of the restrictions and the available options to address violations.
During this period, channel owners are prohibited from certain activities, such as uploading new videos or posting comments, while the platform offers three options to restore access to their channels.
Restoration options
The first option is to review published content and edit or delete violating videos using the editing tools available in "YouTube Studio." The second option involves deleting all videos published on the channel, allowing for its reactivation while retaining subscribers, the channel name, and the status of the YouTube Partner Program subscription.
The third option allows submitting an appeal if the channel owner believes the closure decision was made due to an error and that their content does not violate the platform's policies.
Review conditions
If the owner chooses to edit or manually delete specific videos, the changes are subject to review before the channel is reactivated. If the review is rejected, the owner can resort to the option of deleting all videos, provided this is done within the specified deadline.
The trial is currently limited to certain types of violations of the anti-spam policy and does not cover all violations that could lead to channel closures. The platform has not yet announced a date for rolling out the new policy or expanding its scope to include other violations.
