Zelensky Conditions Ceasefire on Energy Infrastructure on Provision of Interceptor Missiles
Ukrainian President Zelensky insists on receiving interceptor missiles before agreeing to a mutual ceasefire with Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky affirmed his country's readiness to accept a mutual ceasefire covering energy infrastructure, stressing the necessity of supplying it with sufficient interceptor missiles to protect infrastructure from Russian attacks. He pointed out that relations with the United States must be based on honesty, transparency, and shared interests.

In the same context, the Ukrainian news agency quoted Zelensky as saying in an interview with the Italian newspaper "Corriere della Sera" on Tuesday that Ukraine wishes to continue its relations with Washington in an open and honest manner. The Ukrainian President considered that the common ground between the two countries is greater than that which unites the United States with Russia, expressing confidence in American support for his country.

For his part, Zelensky clarified that Kyiv supports a mutual halt to attacks on energy facilities, but he viewed that failing to respond to targeting them without reciprocal guarantees is unfair. He called on Washington to supply Ukraine with the necessary interceptor missiles to protect gas, electricity, and oil facilities, in case the Russian attacks cannot be stopped.

He added that his statements come amid escalating disagreements between Washington and Kyiv regarding military support and policy towards Moscow. The Ukrainian President criticized an agreement announced by US President Donald Trump with Russia regarding diesel supplies, considering it provides Moscow with additional revenues to finance the war and does not contribute to achieving peace.

Reports indicated that US decisions regarding easing sanctions on Russia and military and intelligence support for Ukraine have raised Kyiv's fears of a decline in US commitment to supporting it in this context.

These developments come amid continued tensions between the two sides regarding future support mechanisms, reflecting the complexity of the current diplomatic and military situation.
