Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of continuing to target energy, oil, and gas facilities in Ukraine, despite the US President's call for a ceasefire in the energy sector two weeks ago, noting that recent attacks caused power outages for tens of thousands of homes.
Zelensky said in a post on his Telegram channel today, Sunday, that substations in the Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, and Odesa regions were shelled overnight, causing power outages for tens of thousands of homes, while maintenance teams work to repair the damage.
For his part, Zelensky clarified that Russian attacks over the past few days included more than 2,700 attack drones, 1,700 aerial bombs, and 66 missiles, mostly ballistic, noting that the strikes primarily targeted the energy sector.
He added that Russian attacks yesterday hit residential areas, injuring 12 people, including two children, and leaving two missing, as well as hitting an agricultural facility in the Volyn region.
Zelensky considered that easing sanctions or making other concessions does not push Russia to take positive steps, but rather encourages it, according to him, to continue fighting, calling on the United States to exert direct pressure on Moscow to create a real opportunity to end the war.
US President Donald Trump signed an executive order yesterday, Saturday, suspending the application of sanctions, restrictions, and tariffs targeting Russian oil revenues, after signing a law last month granting him the authority to impose these measures on buyers of Russian oil and gas.
